The YouTube Red subscription service will launch next week with a big catch for iOS users

YouTubes long-rumored subscription service is finally here. Named YouTube Red, it will be available staring next week on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

For iOS users, it will be available through the YouTube app. It can also be accessed from the Apple TV or Mac. But there is a substantial catch for Apple fans. While it will be available on Android devices, the desktop, and mobile Web for $9.99 per month, youll have to shell out $12.99 monthly to receive the features on your iPhone or iPad. Because Apple takes 30 percent of any subscription revenue from apps, YouTube is passing the buck (and the bill) directly to consumers.

When it launches, viewers in the United States can try the service with a one-month free trial.

Touted as the ultimate YouTube experience, the service allows users to view videos in an ad-free environment. You can also download videos to watch later without an Internet connection.

The benefits will also extend to the YouTube Gaming app and the just announced YouTube Music app that will be available soon. A recent blog post explains more about the music-oriented app:

YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever. Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start you on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you. And as a special bonus – YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other.

Starting early next year, YouTube Red members will receive access to new original shows and movies from some of the services biggest stars like PewDiePie, CollegeHumor, Joey Graceffa, and many others.
