Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens – Piecing It Together With The Force
Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens launched this week, and one of the release platformers is iOS. It’s a simultaneous release on consoles and the App Store to let you play along with the Lego version of the most recent film in the Star Wars saga. Like many other Lego games, the story follows the general narrative of the film, but there are flourishes and liberties taken. That allows for all new level set-ups, and a more engaging adventure. Instead of Rey and BB-8 heading back home right away, they get to explore the crashed Star Destroyer themselves, and come across a lot of enemies based on Teedo.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens offers the familiar 3D puzzle adventure set-up in which you break down Lego contractions to rebuild them into usable items. The Force Awakens includes new gameplay mechanics built upon the core structure. There are Multi-Builds that give you a couple of options as you’re reconstructing the Lego blocks with one right sequence to build. The game also includes new battle mechanics allowing you to to run and fire, as well as duck and rise out of cover to fight enemies. If that wasn’t enough, the game includes aerial combat to nicely fit in with the Star Wars theme.
The familiar Lego game style is included with all new ways to play to keep things fresh. The Force Awakens character and storyline has its own appeal letting you play as Rey, BB-8, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Han, Kylo, and more. The Star Wars theme ropes you in, and the new mechanics keep you constantly engaged to play through the entire adventure. It’s great to play all new sequences fleshed out beyond what’s included in the two hour movie. The best part is that you can unlock the full game for a single $6.99 in-app purchase to play all of the included chapters in the iOS version. It’s worth noting that the iOS edition includes select chapters, though the main ones, from the console game rather than the same $60 game, but the matching chapters on iOS include all of the mechanics and cut scenes on consoles.
Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens (Free, Universal) is an outstanding gaming experience that is a welcome addition to the App Store.
