iPhone 8 Pre-Orders Were Down 78 Percent Compared To iPhone 7

More than a week ago, Apple introduced its three new iPhones to the world. While the iPhone X was the main star of the show, many people wondered how well the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus would do as far as sells.

Unfortunately, Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus didn’t do well during the first five days of its pre-orders.  According to e-commerce data analytics firm Slice Intelligence, the iPhone 8 is down by 78 percent compared to last year’s iPhone 7 models. In fact, going by the study which consisted of 146,556 U.S. online shoppers, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus had the lowest pre-orders compared to the iPhone 6 models and newer.

The analyst believes the reason for the iPhone 8 poor pre-order sales is due to many consumers waiting for the high-tech iPhone X, which is expected to be released in November, and the iPhone 8’s average reviews.

“With few new features for iPhone 7 owners and lackluster reviews, one read of this data is the low pre-order numbers are because hardcore fans–usually the first to upgrade– are waiting for the release of Apple’s all-screen, face recognizing, emoji-animating anniversary edition, the iPhone X.”

As for the Apple Watch 3, it did pretty well. Even though the Apple Watch Series 3 is far behind the first Apple Watch Series 1’s pre-orders, the device was able to manage to surpass Apple Watch Series 2 within its first four days of pre-orders.

“In the first four days of pre-orders, the Apple Watch Series 3 outsold what the Series 2 did in its first full week. The numbers are still well below the original smartwatch, but sales are ticking up.”

However, Apple seems to be facing another issue with its wearable. The company has recently announced in a statement that its Apple Watch 3 is connecting itself to unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks rather than using cellular. We should see a watchOS update coming soon to fix this issue.

The iPhone 8, 8 Plus and Apple Watch 3 are now available for purchase online and in-store at select retailers.
