There’s no doubt that Apple’s iPhone 7 has one of the best cameras on the market. In fact, the powerful camera on the iPhone 7 was used to shoot the cover of two magazines.
The featured cover on Condé Nast Traveler 21st annual Hot List Award issue was taken by Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus. This year’s May issue features a small boat on a beach located in St. Barts, the background of the cover is slightly blurred due to Bokra effect exclusive to the 7 Plus. It is said that this is the first cover shot using an iPhone 7 Plus for a travel publication.
Another magazine that used the iPhone 7 Plus to shoot the cover of its magazine is Bon Appétit. The travel issues of Bon Appétit features a woman holding a strawberry Paleta with a blue background. The creative Director Alex Grossman said it made sense to use an iPhone to shoot the front cover the May travel issue given the connection between photography and travel. The cover was shot by Peden + Munk in the Tlacolula Market of Oaxaca, Mexico. According to TechCrunch, Peden told them that the iPhone “didn’t feel like a big magazine cover shoot where there were a bunch of assistants and light reflectors” instead he said, “it felt very comfortable and natural.”
This isn’t the first time Bon Appétit used the iPhone for a photo shoot, last year, they used the iPhone to shoot an entire issue of the magazine. It should be noted that Apple is a proud advertiser of Bon Appétit and has an ad on the back of the May issue highlighting the cover photo was taken on an iPhone.
