The ongoing battle of Apple VS. VirnetX continues as the federal jury in the Eastern District of Texas ordered Apple to pay $302.4 million in patent damages.
Friday, Apple was ordered to pay over $302 million to VirnetX for using the company’s patented internet security technology in features that are used in FaceTime.
This is the third time the companies will be going to court. The case has been going on since 2010 over Apple infringing four patents. In the previous verdict, Apple was ordered to pay $624 million in damages which was the highest verdict in an US patent case. However, the ruling was overturned because repeated references to the earlier case “confused jurors” and were “unfair to Apple.”
According to Bloomberg, the case will now go to the US Court of Appeals for the ruling. The battle between these two companies doesn’t seem like it will come to an end anytime soon, since VirnetX is suing Apple over newer versions of iMessage and security features that infringed the company’s patents.
