Latest reports state that Apple has shown interest in using advanced liquid-crystal displays from a Japanese company in some of its iPhones next year.
New reports have surfaced regarding the Cupertino company showing interest in working with the company called Japan Display Inc. The collaboration would deal with using what the Japanese company’s Full Active liquid-crystal displays (LCD) in some of Apple’s upcoming 2018 iPhones.
Japan Display noted that “its Full Active LCD’s are able to offer the same advantages as OLED panels and at a lower cost.” Many smartphones OEMS have already started using Full Active LCD panels, most are Chinese handset makers at this time.
Talk has it that if Japan Display and LG Display start manufacturing OLED panels that will meet Apple’s demand of standards, Apple would make the switch over to Full Active LCD panels in its line-up of iPhones. By 2019, Apple is speculated to use only OLED panels on all its newer iPhones.
