FreeEducation apps have proven very popular on iOS, and it’s all about making the experience inviting as possible. The Lonely Beast is a creative character that is a hair black ominous creature with glowing yellow eyes. Some how, the creators have made him into a personable character that looks a tad bit cuddly. It started in The Lonely Beast ABC, and now there’s The Lonely Beast 123 which focuses on counting instead of the alphabet. The app helps little ones learn to count from one to twelve through a dozen different scenes.
Each number gets its own scene, and there is one set of on screen objects to count. For instance, there may be five three jackets, five books, or nine cakes. The user simply taps on each object to count them, and then number racks up in the upper left until you reach the target. The app recites the numbers to help reinforce the counting, and the overall total that each scene provides. In addition to the main countable objects, there are also other interactive entities to discover. The artwork is exquisite, again tying into the inviting nature of the overall experience.
The Lonely Beast 123 ($1.99 -> Free, Universal) is on sale for free for a limited time, and is a great introduction to numbers.
