Apple celebrated World Emoji Day on Monday by sharing a peek at the new emoji that are on their way to iOS, macOS, and watchOS later this year.

With thousands of emoji available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, there are many ways to add personality to every message. New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut. More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun.

All of the emoji Apple offered a peek at on Monday were included in the new Unicode 10 standard posted back in June.

Apple didn’t announce an exact date for the release of the new emoji into the wild, but they will likely make an appearance alongside iOS 11, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and watchOS 4, which are expected to debut early this fall.

The 56 new emoji code points in Unicode 10.0 (which will likely make an appearance in Apple’s operating systems),  are:

Check Out Apple’s New Emoji Coming To iOS 11

For those of you who love to express yourselves using emoji will be glad to know Apple is adding all new emoji to its iOS, macOS, and watchOS platforms later this year.

In celebration of “World Emoji Day,” Apple announced all new emoji which include the “Exploding Head,” “Crazy Face,” “Face With Monocle,””Yoga Master,” “T-Rex,” “Coconut,” and “Sandwich” emoji. Not only that, users will also be able to use fantasy-themed emoji such as Vampire, Mage, Fairy, Merperson, Elf, Genie and Zombie emoji.

The new emoji are all part of the Unicode Emoji 10.0 standard which was released to the public not too long ago. This list features a total of 69 new emoji which you can view over on Unicode website.

Apple hasn’t said when these new emoji will be available but it’s likely Apple’s version of these emoji will be released with iOS 11, watchOS 4, and macOS High Sierra this upcoming fall.

Apple just previewed the new emojis coming to the iPhone and Mac later this year

The selection of emojis supported by the Unicode Standard continues to expand with each passing year. In turn, Apple over the years has slowly but surely expanded its own set of supported emojis in iOS. The upside, of course, is that there now appears to be an emoji for almost anything imaginable. The downside, though, is that trying to find an emoji that you know exists can sometimes result in a large amount of scrolling back and forth.

Here are some of new emoji coming to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch later this year

Celebrating World Emoji Day on July 17, Apple on Monday previewed some of the new emoji coming to iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple Watch later this year.

They include a woman with a headscarf, a bearded person and breastfeeding, as well as various new food items such as sandwich and coconut.

“More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, zebra, zombie and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new star-struck and exploding head smiley faces make any message more fun,” said Apple.

The aforementioned emoji are coming to iOS, macOS and watchOS later this year as part of the 56 new emoji recently unveiled by the Unicode Consortium.

Emoji on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV are part of the Apple Color Emoji font.

Also in celebration of World Emoji Day, App Store will be highlighting apps to create or do fun things with emoji. iTunes Movies is already featuring emoji in place of select movie titles. The new emoji should be delivered via point updates to iOS 11, macOS High Sierra and watchOS 4.

Apple Highlights New Batch of Emoji Coming to iOS, macOS, and watchOS Later This Year

After first giving iTunes an emoji-themed makeover, Apple is continuing its celebration of World Emoji Day with a preview of all-new emoji characters coming to iOS, macOS, and watchOS later in 2017.


The new emoji previewed today by Apple include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, Breastfeeding, Sandwich, Coconut, T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie, Elf, Star-Struck, Exploding Head, and more. All of the emoji shared today were previously included in the new Unicode 10 standard released in June.
The new emoji make it easier for users to express themselves with greater diversity, additional animals and creatures, new smiley faces and more.
Apple didn't specify a launch date for the new line of emoji characters coming to iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches this year, but it's expected that they will arrive sometime around the public launch of iOS 11 this fall, or soon thereafter. World Emoji Day celebrations are also extending to the iOS App Store, where Apple said that it has highlighted apps that showcase fun things to do with the smartphone characters.
