Reported by the Chinese site cnBeta, manufacturing documents were leaked stating that Apple will launch three iPhone models for the year 2017; the phones in the document were referred to as D20, D21 and D22. As reference, during the development of Apple’s latest iPhones, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, were codenamed D10 and D20.
Apple Insider reported earlier this week that two of the smartphones are likely to be named the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus and feature LCD screens, the top-tier model which will feature the OLED display will likely be the iPhone 8. According to the report, the iPhone 8 also went by the codename “Ferrari” in the document.
It is said that Apple will redesign the smartphones for its 10 year anniversary next year. However, if these rumors are true, the appearance of the iPhone isn’t the only thing getting redesigned; Apple has plans on changing the interior layout of the phone as well.
The Apple Insider explained that Apple will break the logic board into two discrete units connected by a flex cable…
“The first board will carry iPhone’s operating guts like the expected “A11″ SoC and NAND flash storage, as a communications package with Wi-Fi and cellular components lives on a second board… Apple is considering relocating the SIM card tray toward the bottom of the handset to make room for the internal components, akin to current iPad Pro layouts.”
So, what does this “Ferrari” iPhone have to offer? According to a compilation of rumors, the iPhone 8 will have wireless charging, an improved battery life, OLED display, a glass casing, an invisible home button, and Apple’s A11 chipset.
These are still rumors and have yet to be confirmed by Apple, we’ll see what the 2017 iPhones bring as the year draws closer.
